About
Laura Besaw

Laura E Besaw was raised in an art loving family who saw her inclination towards all things arts and craft. Her childhood was spent exploring many mediums and she was encouraged to experiment freely — painting on everything from canvas, furniture, clothing and even her first car.

Laura attended NSCAD university from 1997-2001 focusing on ceramics. She produced colourful pottery and sculpture using red earthenware clay and Italian maiolica glazes. Her love of nature and patterns splashed all over her work. Selling under the name of Lola Pots from 2007 to 2014 in Lunenburg county.

Years spent as a part-time artist, full time mom, and part-time farmer blossomed into a market gardening business. Laura and her husband Stephen built and ran a biodiverse organic fruit and vegetable farm for 10 years in Petite Riviere, Nova Scotia, Mi’kma’ki, Canada.

Now, with excitement and much inspiration she is returning to a studio practice —this time with paint and canvas! Laura’s paintings are an expression of the beauty she sees all around. Her love of the natural world and all of our relations, plant, animal and mineral. She works to capture even a smidgen of the vibrance in all things. She uses rich colours and patterns to convey the energies and feelings she witnesses. Her paintings invite the viewer to experience the magic in all things.
